Home Road Railroad Overpass
This $7.9 million dollar ODOT project was designed to change an at-grade CSX railroad crossing to a bridge that would span the tracks. It encompassed a 140’ single span bridge utilizing precast bridge beams. The support for the abutment walls included 47,000 SF of MSE wall with an associated 122,000 tons of select granular backfill, as well as 125,871 CY of earthen embankment. Due to suspect subsurface ground conditions, an extensive monitoring system was utilized which consisted of over 31,000 feet of Wick Drains, 6 Settlement Platforms, and 6 Vibrating Wire Piezometers. This was all in an effort to monitor subsurface pore pressures during construction of the 32 VF embankment for the bridge.
