Perry Taggert Sewer Project
This $16.2 million project called for the construction of a 4-mile sanitary sewer line consisting of 42”, 36”, 18” and 15” sewer pipe to serve a rapidly developing 21-square-mile area in Delaware County. Among other things, this new extension required the construction and installation of multiple (5) tunnels going underneath the Olentangy River.
The project fell within a stretch of the Olentangy River designated as a Scenic Waterway, one of 15 such waterways in Ohio. As such, special provisions had to be undertaken and great care observed to meet the environmental standards required.
The project was approximately split between 2 miles in sand and gravel and the other 2 miles in solid rock. 500 ft long underwater micro-tunnels were installed under the River. Coordination of specialty subcontractors and utilization of resources was paramount to the success of this important project.
